Our old incy was a simple Little Giant foam unit with a fan. Keeping the temperature steady was difficult as was the humidity and then on the last hatch we attempted with it, the fan failed shortly after lock down and killed the chicks waiting to hatch.
It will be retired to be a hatching unit. Since we stagger our hatches, a hatcher is nice so the other eggs won't be disturbed. We intend to use it once the eggs zipper. Paper towels will line the metal wire that is the base for padding and to keep little toes from being hurt if they are caught in it.
The new incubator is all digital. Temperature and humidity are monitored with alarms that sound if they fluctuate too high or low. It comes with turners and egg cups that will work with our silkie eggs up the geese without special ones needing to be purchased.
More on the new incy once we try it.
